WHAT IS AN OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT
Ophthalmic Assistants help Ophthalmologists care for patients. Ophthalmic Assistants gather medical histories, conduct vision test, coordinate schedules, and assist eye doctors with various procedural and clerical duties. Mostly, Ophthalmic Assistants are information gatherers and facilitators. OA's perform measurements and diagnostic test that provides the Doctor with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. They also assist with documentation and patient services. Some Ophthalmic Assistants assist with surgical procedures such as, Lasik eye surgery, cataract surgery, laser surgeries, retinal eye injections, just to name a few.
